ANKARA, Nov 10 (PRIME) -- Turkish agricultural company Agrobay has restarted regular tomato supplies to Russia after Moscow had lifted imports restrictions, Director for exports Izzet Ekiz told PRIME on Friday.
“We have allocated 5,000 tonnes of tomatoes for exports to Russia that we plan for this season, or until May 2018. The first batch was sent yesterday, each truck will carry 20 tonnes to Moscow and St. Petersburg, and from now on these supplies will be regular,” the official said.
Moscow banned tomato imports from Turkey as part of retaliation measures from January 1, 2016 after Ankara downed a Russian Su-24 bomber. On October 31, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight allowed three Turkish companies to export 50,000 tonnes of tomatoes to Russia starting from November 1 under a ruling of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
